
Smith Named SoCon’s Women’s Runner of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford graduate student Edie Smith was named the Southern Conference's Women's Runner of the Week when the league released its weekly cross-country awards Wednesday afternoon.
This is Smith's first weekly award of her career and the first Bulldog to claim the award since McKenzie Houge in 2022.
The graduate student from Homewood, Alabama claimed victory at the season-opening Foothills Invitational with a time of 17:44.89 in the 5K. Smith paced a group of Bulldogs that won the event by 52 points over host Jacksonville State.
Samford will next compete in the Southern Showcase on Sept. 13 in Huntsville, Alabama.
