Women’s Basketball Drops Road Game At ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 69-48 decision at ETSU Saturday afternoon at Brooks Gymnasium.
 
Woth the loss, Samford fell to 5-14 overall and 0-3 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improved its record to 11-8 overall and 2-2 in league play.
 
Samford was led in the loss by Kennedy Langham with 11 points and seven rebounds. Alonya Waldon added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
 
For ETSU, Courtney Moore led the way with 16 points. Meghan Downing, Paige Lyons and Braylyn Milton added 10 points each for the Bucs.
 
Samford took an early 3-2 lead with 5:45 to go in the first quarter after a layup by Waldon. ETSU scored the next five points to take a 7-3 lead at the 4:33 mark in the first period after a three-pointer by Milton. The Bulldogs fought back to tie the score at 7-7 with 2:33 left in the period after a layup by Langham. ETSU scored the final five points of the period to take a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
ETSU started the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 22-9 advantage with 6:11 left in the period after a jumper by Milton. The Bucs pushed their lead to 19 points at 36-17, but Samford closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 36-24 heading into the locker room at halftime.
 
Samford cut the lead to nine points at 38-29 with 8:42 to go in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Aubrey Blankenship. ETSU, however, took over the rest of the third quarter, leading by as many as 26 points and holding a 57-33 lead at the end of the period.
 
Samford could no get closer than 19 points in the fourth quarter. ETSU finished with the 69-48 win.
 
Samford will return home to play host to the Furman Paladins on Thursday, Jan. 23. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
