TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Samford track and field team continued its outdoor season today as they competed in its third event of the season, hosted by Alabama. The two-day event, Friday and Saturday saw the Bulldogs compete against their stiffest competition to date.
The Bulldogs competed in distance events on Friday night as
Edie Smith came in seventh in the women's 5000m. On the men's side,
Stephen Jones came in 14th in the same event.Â
The majority of the Samford athletes competed today as
Kyle Kaufelds came in seventh in the men's javelin throw while
Ellison Chadwick came in third place in the women's long jump. In her top three finish, she set the second-best mark in program history with a best jump of 5.94.
Erin Long has been off to a strong start in the season and she continued with a strong fourth-place finish in the women's javelin throw.Â
Bradley Franklin took a second-place finish in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.78 seconds.
Dorsey Parker had a good day in the women's high jump as she cleared 1.70 meters, finishing in fourth place.
Carter Ellis finished fourth in the men's pole vault and set a personal-best clearance of 5.25 meters.
In the men's high jump,
Jaggerd Moore and
Arthur Chitty came in fourth and sixth respectively as they each cleared 2.05 meters. The best performance of the night came from
Maddie Edwards in the women's 400-meter hurdles as she won the event with the second-best time in Samford history at 59.01 seconds.
Adeline Haisch ran the third-fastest time in Bulldog history in the women's 1500m as she came in third place at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend as they head to Georgia Tech to compete on Friday and Saturday. The Dogs continue to build up to the Southern Conference Outdoor Championship which they host on May 12-13.
