STARKVILLE, Miss. - The
Samford men's and women's track and field team was back in action at the Maroon and White Tune Up hosted by Mississippi State the past few days. The majority of the events took place today on a rain-delayed Saturday that saw the Bulldogs take home multiple wins and a handful of top-three finishes.
Friday's limited events saw the Bulldogs take second place in the men's discus throw as
Eli Penix had a best throw of 44.48 meters. The distance running events saw
David Brown win the men's 5000 meters to close out Friday night.
Saturday was the packed day of the meet but was delayed mid-way through by inclement weather.
Emerson Simpson took third in the women's pole vault while
Carter Ellis and
Walker Smith went one and two in the men's pole vault.
Dorsey Parker continues her strong season as she got second in the women's high jump by clearing 1.70 meters and
Ellison Chadwick also took second in the women's long jump with a best try of 5.89m.
The next win came from
Erin Long in the women's javelin throw with a best of 49.46 meters, narrowly beating her best throw from last weekend that earned her SoCon Athlete of the Week.
Kyle Kaufelds took second place on the men's side of the event with a throw of 65.78 meters.
Eli Penix took third in the men's shot put to close out the field events as he hit 14.89m.
Chadwick was back in action in the women's 100m dash as she doubled up on the track and took second with a time of 12.17.
Bradley Franklin was narrowly bested in the men's 110m hurdles as he came in second place with a time of 13.75 seconds. The final win of the weekend came from
Andrew McGinnis who earned a win in the men's 1500m.
Next time the Bulldogs are back in action, they will be racing for a trophy at the Southern Conference Tournament. Samford will host the event that will take place over two days on May 12 & 13.
