JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Samford track and field program returns to action this week as they travel to the NCAA Championsip East Region that begins on Wednesday. Coming off Southern Conference championships on the men's and women's side for the fifth straight season, the Bulldogs have nine individuals who qualified to compete on the national stage. 

Samford has eight men and one woman at the NCAA Region hosted by North Florida. Zephaniah Carico-McLennan qualified in the men's 800 meter as he has the 53rd best time in the country in the event of 1:47.56 and took second place at the SoCon Tournament. Bradley Franklin ranks 38th in the nation in the men's 110-meter hurdles after running a SoCon record 13.56 on his way to winning the conference championship in the event. Landon Wright dominated the SoCon Championship in the men's 400m hurdles and has a season-best time of 51.41. Carter Ellis qualified in the men's pole vault after clearing 5.25 meters at the Crimson Tide Invitational earlier this season.

The Bulldogs have two athletes in the men's high jump as Arthur Chitty has the 10th-best mark this season in the country of 2.22 meters and Jaggerd Moore who cleared 2.14 meters and sits 53rd in the nation. The pair went one and two at the SoCon Outdoor Championship. Ian Jones is coming off a conference championship in the men's triple jump after setting a season-best mark of 15.40 meters to qualify for the NCAA East Region. Kyle Kaufelds qualified in the javelin throw as he sits 95th in the country after a throw of 66.16 meters and is coming off a conference championship. 

Erin Long will represent the women's track and field team in the javelin throw after she won the SoCon Tournament and had a season-best of 49.46 meters earlier in the year. The meet is scheduled to run Wednesday through Saturday. Live results and video can be found here.
