BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five members of the Samford track and field teams will compete in the NCAA East Preliminaries Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
 
Kyle Kaufeld (men's javelin), Bradley Franklin (men's 110-meter hurdles), Zephaniah Carico-McLennan (men's 800 meters), Jess Edwards (women's 800 meters) and Arthur Chitty (men's high jump) will represent Samford at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
 
Kaufeld's competition in the men's javelin is scheduled for 12 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday. Franklin will compete in the men's 110-meter hurdles in the first round Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT) and in the quarterfinals Friday at 5:15 p.m. (CT). Carico-McLennan will run in the men's 800 meters Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. (CT) in the first round and Friday at 6:05 p.m. (CT) in the quarterfinals. Edwards will compete in the women's 800 meters in the first round Thursday at 6:50 p.m. (CT) and in the quarterfinals Saturday at 6:05 p.m. (CT). Chitty's competition in the men's high jump will occur Friday at 1 p.m. (CT).
 
The top 12 finishers from each event advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
