Samford University is a premier nationally-ranked Christian university offering undergraduate programs grounded in the liberal arts and a distinct blend of graduate and professional schools. Founded in 1841, Samford is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education ranks Samford 1st in the nation for student engagement. U.S. News & World Report ranks Samford 40th in the nation for best undergraduate teaching and 100th for best value. Samford enrolls 5,729 students from 47 states and 30 countries in its 10 academic schools.

As a proud member of the NCAA and the Southern Conference and under the leadership of Martin Newton, director of athletics, Samford fields 17 teams that compete at the NCAA Division I level. Samford currently offers the following men's sports: Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Tennis, Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field. Samford also currently offers the following women's sports: Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field, Volleyball.

Samford's athletic programs earned a 99% Graduation Success Rate (GSR) by the NCAA, ranking No. 1 overall and No. 1 in the state of Alabama for GSR among all NCAA Division I colleges and universities (2020).

Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, the Bulldogs have won 57 league championships, including 17 titles in the last two seasons.

The last 10 years have been the most successful in the 130-year history of Samford Athletics, as the Bulldogs have claimed 52 of the school's 91 all-time championships while excelling in the classroom at unprecedented levels.

This period has been marked by a dedication to enhancing the student-athlete experience through enhanced support programs and new and renovated facilities.

 Off the field, Samford Athletics has increased annual philanthropic support from $800,000 in 2008 to more than $2 million in each of the last three years. 

While 2020-21 presented many challenges for the Bulldogs due to the global pandemic, Samford Athletics continued its unprecedented streak of success by capturing a school-record nine Southern Conference championships.
