Alex Durbin enters his first season as an assistant soccer coach at Samford.
"We're super excited to add Alex to the staff," Samford head coach Todd Yelton said. "He comes from a background as a head coach, which I think there is definitely value in that. He'd done a really great job of building a program there. We look forward to having him here to help us try to continue to win championships."
Durbin comes to Samford after spending the last five seasons as the head coach at Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa. During his time in charge of the program, Durbin posted a head coaching record of 51-33-8. His 2024 team finished third in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), the highest finish for the program since 2009.
In his last two seasons as the head coach at Dordt, his teams posted impressive records of 12-6-2 (2023) and 12-5-1 (2024). Both of those teams led the GPAC in both goals scored and total points. He coached two All-Americans, 26 All-GPAC selections and two GPAC Attacking Players of the Year.
Durbin began his coaching career as an assistant coach for both the Dordt men's and women's soccer teams from 2017 to 2018. In 2019, he remained as an assistant with the women's team, while also serving as the head coach for Western Christian High School.
Durbin earned his bachelor's degree from Dordt in 2019, while gaining his master's from the school in 2022.
