B.J. Millican is in his first year as Associate AD for Marketing, Communications and Broadcasting.
Millican, who was hired at Samford University in December of 2014, previously worked as Art Director & Graphic Designer for the Bulldogs athletics department. He also served the University as the Assistant Director of Broadcast Media and later the Director of Broadcast Media in the Office of Marketing and Communication.
Millican’s graphic design work has been nationally recognized by digital and design strategy company, SkullSparks, regularly landing on Top 25 lists for the best in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) design. In 2018, he helped Samford garner a Top 10 spot for FCS content. He produces and creates print, website and digital content for Samford’s social media channels.
Millican has also been recognized nationally for his video content, earning recognition from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), the Baptist Communicators Association (BCA), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He co-produced the video “Devlin Hodges’ Duck Tales: A Quest for the Walter Payton Award” which won the Gold Award for Best Digital Video Segment from NACMA in 2019.
Before coming to Samford, Millican spent 11 years in local broadcast television as a sports producer and anchor at WIAT-TV (CBS42) in Birmingham and WVUA-TV in Tuscaloosa.
Millican earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Samford University in December of 2020. He later earned his Master’s in Sport Management at the University of Florida.
Millican is a native of Birmingham and he and his wife, Becky, have three children.
