Dr. E.J. Brophy

Veteran athletic administrator Dr. E. J. Brophy was hired in May 2022 as Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Director of the S-Club. And he currently serves as Associate AD for Development. 

Brophy comes to Samford with a wealth of experience in college athletics, including serving over 16 years in administration with stints as the Director of Athletics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the University of West Alabama, and as Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs at UAB.

Dr. Brophy also coached baseball at the college level for seven years, including a year at Samford, a year at the University of Montevallo and five years as the head coach at Wallace Community College in Selma.

Most recently, Brophy was the General Manager of the Hoover Metropolitan Complex, and he has also been a frequent color analyst on Samford baseball and softball ESPN+ broadcasts.
Brophy played baseball collegiately at UAB and for four years in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system, reaching the Triple-A level in 1995.

Dr. Brophy holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (1995), a master’s degree in Physical Education (1998), and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership (2009), all from UAB.

A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Brophy is married to the former Cindy Wooten of Birmingham, and they have one son (Brooks) and one daughter (Bailey).
