Erika Layton serves as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at Samford University after joining the department in February 2023 as Director of Compliance. Since arriving at Samford, she has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director and most recently to Associate Athletics Director. In addition to overseeing all aspects of the department's NCAA compliance program, Layton serves as the sport administrator for Samford's softball program and is a member of the department's Athletics Council.Â
Prior to Samford, Layton served as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, Equity & Inclusion at Wagner College, where she directed all compliance operations for the Seahawks' 26 varsity sports while also serving as the sport supervisor for men's lacrosse, softball, and men's and women's water polo.
Before returning to Wagner, Layton was Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at Canisius College. Earlier in her career, she served as Assistant Director of Compliance at the University of Rhode Island and Director of Compliance at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Notably, Layton began her career at both the MAAC and Wagner in postgraduate intern and graduate assistant roles before returning to each organization in full-time leadership positions.
A native of Hyde Park, New York, Layton earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Siena College in 2015, where she was a four-year member of the Division I swimming & diving program, and a Master of Business Administration from Wagner College in 2018.
