Samford University Athletics

James Carlson is entering his 24th season at Samford. Carlson serves as the director of equipment services for the athletics department.

Carlson oversees all aspects of the equipment room. He orders and maintains all equipment for the all of Samford’s 17 athletic teams. He also organizes and oversees transport of all football equipment for road games, and handles the coaches’ sideline communication.

Before joining the Samford staff, Carlson spent three seasons as the football equipment manager and video coordinator at Henderson State University, where he handled day-to-day operations of the equipment room, film breakdown and computer scouting. At Henderson State, he worked for two seasons under former Samford Offensive Coordinator Doug Meacham and former Assistant Coach Patrick Nix.

Carlson, a native of Warner Robins, Ga., is a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.
