Record Performance Earns Reesor SoCon Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- For her record-setting performance Sunday at Wofford, Samford's Michaela Reesor was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.

Despite only playing one game this past week, Reesor earned the accolade after scoring 33 kills in a 3-2 comeback win over Wofford on Sunday.  The total is a new Samford single-match school record, beating the previous record of 31 set by Ashley Adams in 2008.  Reesor hit for a .375 clip on 64 swings and added 14 digs for her fourth straight double-double, her eighth this season.

“Michaela has been working so hard at her serve and receive game, sometimes you can forget what a gifted attacker she is,” said Head Coach Derek Schroeder.  “You forget and then she gives you a match like she did this weekend.  I've very proud of my fellow Canadian!”

The Caledon, Ontario native leads the Bulldogs in kills this season with 329 and is second on the team with 240 digs.  She is 70 kills shy of cracking the single-season top ten at Samford and is quickly closing in on the career kills list with 587 already in her Samford career.

The other conference honorees this week are Georgia Southern's Alexandra Beecher on defense and Furman's Jo Wilks as the freshman of the week.

Samford continues its season with three home matches this week.  Samford takes on Chattanooga on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. CT before hosting Elon on Friday, Nov. 2 in the annual Dig Pink charity game at 7 p.m. and then UNCG for Senior Night on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
