The Bulldogs and Jayhawks will resume the contest Saturday with one out in the top of the second
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team's series-opening contest against the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday was suspended due to a freak rainstorm in area that oversaturated the infield, making it unplayable at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game will resume Saturday at noon (CDT) with one out in the top of the second inning.
Â
The teams will play the second game of the series approximately 30 minutes following the first game. Samford (21-17) and Kansas (16-20) are playing a three-game non-conference series this weekend.
Â
With no score and the Jayhawks batting in the top of the second inning, a light sprinkle quickly turned into a menacing downpour as nearly an inch of rain dropped in less than five minutes. The Bulldogs' players quickly moved into action to roll out the tarp, but the damage had already been done.
Â
Both head coaches met for 15 minutes and inspected the field before deciding to postpone the game to Saturday.
