MORGANTOWN, W.VA. -- Postseason accolades continued to roll in for Samford's Austin Edens and Heath Quinn on Thursday as the Bulldogs' pair was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) Second Team, it was officially announced by the organization's headquarters.

After two rounds of voting by the organization, 67 baseball student-athletes comprised the NCBWA's 19th Annual All-America first, second and third teams, as announced Thursday.

Austin Edens
Twenty different conferences are represented and 10 conference championships teams. The three All-America squads are also made up of nine conference players of the year, 11 conference pitchers of the year winners and eight first-round draft picks in the recent Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Members of this year's team lead or are tied for the lead nationally in 15 different categories, including batting average (Ryan Scott, Little Rock, .435), hits (Boomer White, Texas A&M, 100), home runs per game (Spencer Johnson, Missouri State, 0.41), RBI per game (Nick Feight, UNC Wilmington, 1.52) and total bases (Nick Feight, UNC Wilmington, 175).

Samford's Edens finished the 2016 campaign ranked eighth in the nation with 19 home runs. The Bulldogs' sophomore slugger was also named a First-Team All-Southern Conference performer by both the coaches and the media. Edens closed out the year with a .311 batting average, 59 RBI, 43 runs scored and 144 total bases.

Last season, Samford's Edens was named a Second-Team freshman All-American by the NCBWA. In two years, the Bulldogs' native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has already compiled 35 home runs and a 113 RBI.

Samford's Quinn capped off his magical junior campaign last week as he was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 18th pick in the third round (95th overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft.

With the honor, Quinn became the second highest draft pick in Samford's 112-year history. In 2013, former Bulldog-great Philip Ervin was selected 27th overall in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds

Samford, the winningest Division I program in the state of Alabama since 2011, has now had 19 players taken in the MLB Draft over the last six years. Prior to this season, four Bulldogs were drafted in 2011, seven Samford players were taken in 2012, a pair was drafted in 2013 and two were taken in 2014.

Quinn, who garnered First-Team All-SoCon honors this year, finished 2016 with a .343 batting average, 21 home runs and a school-record 77 RBI. The Bulldogs' all-time, single season leader in RBI also proved to a member of the All-SoCon Tournament Team.

In his illustrious three-year career at Samford, Quinn compiled 44 home runs, 48 doubles, 168 runs, 181 RBI and a stellar .334 batting average.

Previous NCBWA All-America teams from 1996-2015 have featured the likes of Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State, J.D. Drew of Florida State, Mark Teixeira of Georgia Tech, Mark Prior of Southern California, Khalil Greene of Clemson, Rickie Weeks of Southern, Alex Gordon of Nebraska, David Price of Vanderbilt, Buster Posey of Florida State, Mike Zunino of Florida and Kris Bryant of San Diego.

Also on Thursday, the Bulldogs' Edens and Quinn were both named to the NCAA Division I South Central All-Region First Team. The pair joins 11 others as the top collegiate players in the South Central Region.
