BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Samford's home midweek matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was slated for Tuesday at 6 p.m. (CT), has been cancelled, it was officially announced by both athletic departments Monday. Alabama initiated the cancelation. In return, the teams agreed to a five-year, home-and-home series through the 2022 season.

Earlier this year,
Samford (27-21) posted a 10-3 road victory at
Alabama (18-29) on March 15. In last year's matchup held at Joe Lee Griffin Field, the Bulldogs registered a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory.

The Crimson Tide is coming off a momentous three-game sweep of arch-rival and No. 4-ranked Auburn over the weekend, including a marathon 11-9 win in 15 innings late Sunday night. Alabama is scheduled to host Grambling on Wednesday before welcoming No. 7 Florida to Tuscaloosa for a three-game set this weekend.

Samford will next be in action Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, for the first game of a key Southern Conference series against the ETSU Buccaneers. Game two is slated to be held Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by Sunday's finale at noon.
