Men's Cross Country Wins TAAC Championship, Women Second

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Samford University's men's cross country team won its second consecutive Trans America Athletic Championship and the women finished second at the TAAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Five Bulldogs finished in the Top 10, led by Brett Baddorf who placed fourth with time of 25:56. Andrew Spear finished just eight seconds behind Baddorf at 26:04 to place sixth, followed by Chad Johnson (26:24) in eighth, Chad James (26:25(in ninth), and Mark McBride (26:30) to round out the Top 10. Rounding out the Bulldog roster, Clay DeMore (27:13) finished 23rd, Micah Stansell finished 30th with a time of 27:47 and Chad Harris placed just behind in 31st with a time of 27:55.

Samford won the men's title with 37 points, followed by Georgia State (68), Troy State (75), Campbell (100), Mercer (101), Central Florida (148), Stetson (202), Jacksonville (220) and Florida Atlantic (244).

Lauren Floyd paced the women's team, who placed five runners in the Top 20. Floyd's time of 18:54 placed her sixth, followed by Erin Giesa (19:06) in 11th, Alice McGough (19:15) in 13th, Katie Flewellyn (19:19) in 14th, Tara Bourque (19:36) at 20th, Abbey McGough (19:37) in 21st, Ashley Gilliam (19:49) at 25th and Jackie Sharpe (20:36) at 40th.

Georgia State won the women's title with 51 points, followed by Samford (64), Jacksonville (68), Central Florida (69), Campbell (91), Troy State (178), Stetson (243), Mercer (246), Florida Atlantic (257) and Jacksonville State (261).
