About Samford University

Samford is a leading Christian university offering undergraduate programs grounded in the liberal arts with an array of nationally recognized graduate and professional schools. Founded in 1841, Samford is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Samford enrolls 5,791 students from 49 states, Puerto Rico and 16 countries in its 10 academic schools: arts, arts and sciences, business, divinity, education, health professions, law, nursing, pharmacy and public health. Samford fields 17 athletic teams that compete in the tradition-rich Southern Conference and ranks 6th nationally for its Graduation Success Rate among all NCAA Division I schools.

Samford Athletics MissionUnder the leadership of President Beck Taylor and Director of Athletics Martin Newton, Samford University is a proud member of the NCAA and the Southern Conference, fielding 17 teams that compete at the Division I level.

The Bulldogs currently offer the following men's sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, Indoor/Outdoor track and field while competing in the following women's sports: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, Indoor/Outdoor track and field, and volleyball.

Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, the Bulldogs have captured 80 conference championships, including a school-record 11 titles in 2022-2023.
