COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Samford freshman Wendy Woods scored her fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute but it was not enough as Tennessee Tech defeated Samford 2-1 in women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Tennessee Tech scored two goals off set plays to take a 2-0 lead. Woods cut the lead in half with a right footed shot into the far post side netting off a pass from Lisa Robishaw. It was Robishaw=s first assist of the season.

Samford=s Beverly Snellgrove just missed tying the score in the 75th minute when her shot from 20 yards hit the crossbar and rebounded out to Hayley Kolb. Kolb=s header attempt was saved by TTU goalkeeper Julia Doyle.

Tennessee Tech got on the board first off a corner kick in the 41st minute. Tiffany Leslin headed the corner kick past Carrie Ollom to put the Golden Eagles ahead. TTU scored again in the 55th minute off a free kick by Bryn Sanders. Sanders kick was headed in by Cheryl Bjorgen.

"I thought we were out of rhythm today," said head coach Barry Spitzer. "I was pleased with the play of our young players off the bench such as Lisa Robishaw who gave us a great spark."

Robishaw had only seen action in two games prior to Wednesday but she played 55 minutes against Tennessee Tech. "I have been working really hard in practice and was excited about getting a chance to help the team," said Robishaw. "I don't usually jump in the air after goals but I did on that one, because I was so excited"

Samford will try to get back in the win column on Saturday when it faces Trevecca College at 1 p.m. at Samford field.
