Samford Baseball Signs Three

Dec. 14, 2000

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford Head Baseball Coach Tim Parenton announced the signing of Alan Bryan, Eli Iorg and Ehren Wassermann to national letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs in 2002.

"We're excited about this trio of players because they fit the Samford mold athletically and academically," said Parenton. "All three can step in and be dual players for us, which is a key at Samford. And we think each one of them can do it as first-year players."

Alan Bryan, a 6-3, 200-pound right handed pitcher from Collierville, Tenn., played in 12 games and started nine as a junior, pitching five complete games and posting a 10-0 record with a 2.11 ERA for Collierville High. Bryan's numbers also included 60 innings pitched, 69 strikeouts, 18 earned runs and 51 hits with no home runs allowed. A two-sport athlete in baseball and football at Collierville, Bryan has lettered each of his three years and has been selected to Tennessee's Sunbelt Showcase Team which features the state's top 18 juniors, and the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-Region Team in 1999 and 2000. He also won the varsity baseball Best Pitcher Award in 2000 and was selected to the Best of the West All-Tournament Team in 1999. Bryan is also an excellent student, carrying a 3.5 G.P.A., winning an Academic Excellence Award in 2000 and earning membership to the honor roll and list of Who's Who Among High School Students in 1999 and 2000.

Eli Iorg is a 6-3, 175-pound pitcher and shortstop from Karns High School in Knoxville, Tenn. As a junior, Iorg hit for a .462 average with 23 RBIs, and posted a 5-1 record with four saves and a 2.00 ERA. He earned All-Region Honorable Mention honors as a junior in 2000, and is the son of Toronto Blue Jay First Base Coach Garth Iorg.

Ehren Wasserman is a 6-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher and infielder for Jefferson Davis Community College. A Sylacauga native, Wasserman hit .382 while playing third base, shortstop, second base, first base, and pitcher for the Warhawks. He led the team in doubles and stolen bases with 14 each and recorded an on-base percentage of .524 and a slugging percentage of .518. During his JC career Jefferson Davis was region champion, Division II champions and made a World Series appearance. Academically, Wasserman maintains a 4.0 G.P.A.
