Samford Head Coach Pete Hurt released the Bulldogs' two-deep roster on Friday, as the Bulldogs continued their preparation for the Aug. 31 season opener in Chattanooga.
As expected, kickers Chip Walters and Vestavia's Ty Neil earned starting spots on the Bulldog special teams, Walters as the place kicker and Neil as the punter. Freshman kicker Jonathan Reynolds also figures into the mix at punter along with Neil, who is also the backup to Walters.
Most notable on the list are two freshman starters on the Bulldog defensive line. Shades Valley product Demarius Jackson and fellow newcomer Will Grogan will start on a line limited in game experience. Another possible surprise includes newly converted defensive lineman Ryan Buchanan at tight end, starting for the injured Frank Walker. Junior tailback Gary Reed will start for Rashad Brewer, who has been hampered by an ankle injury throughout fall practice.
