CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Matt Vick kicked three consecutive field goals to
account for all second-half scoring as Chattanooga opened its season with a
23-6 victory over Samford Thursday night.
The win marked the debut of Chattanooga head coach Donnie Kirkpatrick.
Chattanooga scored on its first two possessions - a pair of 6-yard passes by
Chris Sanders to Jason Ball and Cos DeMatteo - then didn't score again until
its last three.
Samford's only score came on a 2-yard run into the end zone by Kadell Wright
in the second quarter.
This was the third consecutive year the schools have opened their seasons
against each other, and the third consecutive year that Chattanooga has won.
