--Freshman Jason Ogletree scored three touchdowns and senior Rashad Brewer added two more to lead Samford University to a 49-17 win over the University of Tennessee-Martin in NCAA Division I-AA football Thursday night.
Brewer scored on runs of 22 and one yards and led a bruising Samford ground game with 106 yards in 15 carries. Ogletree scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 19-yard run late in the third quarter and added scoring runs of two and one yards in the final period.
Samford (2-1) rolled up 406 yards rushing, controlling the football for 35 minutes. The Bulldogs led, 21-10, at the half. Samford attempted only three passes, completing one for 12 yards, and did not punt in the game.
Safety Robert Evans returned an intercepted pass 49 yards with 12:22 in the first quarter to put Samford on top early. Chip Walters kicked the first of seven extra points to give Samford a 7-0 lead. Josh Kellett ran six yards late in the first quarter for Samford's other score.
Bill Whittemore ran 46 yards in the second quarter and Damien Harris ran 28 yards in the final period for Tennessee-Martin (1-2). Jay Holmes kicked a 23-yard field goal and two extra points for the Skyhawks.
Gary Reed gained 87 yards in 13 carries, Kellett 83 yards in 12 tries and Ogletree 65 in 15 trips for Samford. Roland Ogletree led Tennessee-Martin with 104 yards in 12 carries.
