Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight 3-1 Over Stetson

DeLand, Fla. - Samford University used a dominating middle attack led by Shellie Ouldhouse and Stefanie Pickett to knock off Stetson 3-1 in Atlantic Sun volleyball action Friday night. The Bulldogs middles combined for 34 kills and a .520 hitting percentage (34-8-50) as Samford won its fourth-straight match and improved to 2-0 in the A-Sun.

Ouldhouse led the Bulldog attack for the second night in a row with a season-high 21 kills and hit .600 (21-3-30). Pickett also recorded a season-high with 13 kills on 20 swings for a .400 percentage (13-5-20). Pickett led the defensive effort as well recording 10 digs and five blocks for her third double-double of the season.

Samford (6-8, 2-0) hit a season-high .301 in the match despite on getting only six kills from its leading hitter Whitney Miller. It was Miller's lowest kill production of the season. Abby Miner picked up the outside attack recording 11 kills as the Bulldogs won 30-20, 23-30, 30-24, 30-21.

The match was tied 1-1 before Samford took control in game three. With the Hatters ahead 11-10, the Bulldogs scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 21-14 lead. Stetson pulled to within five but Samford held off the run to take a 2-1 match lead.

In game four, Samford broke an 8-8 tie with Pickett holding serve for four consecutive rallies and the Bulldogs never looked back. Samford used a 13-5 run to build an 21-13 lead and went on to win 30-21.

Stetson (4-8, 0-1) was led by Kira Smedley with a season-high 20 kills to go along with a .469 attack percentage. Michelle Clonan added 14 kills and eight digs.

Samford has now won five of its last six matches and will go for its fifth-straight win at Jacksonville University on Saturday in a 4 p.m. EST match.
