Samford Women Ready For The Wrath

Nov. 9, 2001

Tip: Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Seibert Hall on the Samford University campus.

SAMFORD: The Bulldogs will look to the future during the 2001-02 season. Ten of the 13 players on this year's roster are either freshmen or sophomores. Samford graduated seven players off its 2000-01 team and only Clarissa Clark remains from the inaugural 1997-98 team. The youngsters are a talented group. Giovanni Price was named to the TAAC All-freshman team last season and this year's freshmen class will be one to watch. Morgan Vickery won the State of Alabama three-point shooting crown last year and Andrea Ward once scored 47 points in one game in high school.

ALABAMA WRATH: The Wrath is club team based out of Birmingham, which is composed of former college players from around the state of Alabama. The Wrath are playing a 10-game exhibition schedule against mostly division I colleges in Alabama. Tonight is the Wrath's eighth game in ten days. They will finish their exhibition tour against Birmingham Southern on Monday. The Wrath played Southern University last night. The Wrath features UAB graduates Regina Stowes, Shawnee Lenoir, Regina Brown, and Troy State graduate Kira McWaine.

INSIDE STUFF: Giovanni Price is Samford's leading returning scorer from last season. The TAAC All-Freshman Team member broke the Samford record for free throws made and attempted in one season as she went 105-156 (67%) from the charity stripe. Price also holds the school record for made three throws in a game when she hit 11 against Alabama on Nov. 17, 2000. She is already fifth on Samford's career free throws made list. Clarissa Clark returns for her second senior season after her second ACL injury ended her 2000-01 season after just five games.

AIR: None

NEXT: Samford will begin the regular season on Friday at Alabama. The Crimson Tide has been the Bulldogs opening day opponent the past three seasons. Samford is 0-4 all-time against Alabama.
