BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team went 3-29 from the floor in the first half while Georgia State went 20-40 to build a 44-11 halftime lead and cruise to an 69-36 Trans America Athletic Conference victory at Seibert Hall on Saturday.

Georgia State (17-5, 11-2 TAAC) won its eight-straight game behind the efforts of Evita Rogers and Leslie McElrath. Rogers led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds while McElrath scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

McElrath opened the game with a made jumper followed by a made shot by Lutrell for the game's only tie at 2-2. From that point, Georgia State held Samford with out a field goal for 11 minutes as the Lady Panthers went on a 26-4 run. Giovanni Price ended the drought with a 3-pointer at the 8:06 mark to make the score 28-9. Each team traded baskets before Samford went the final 5:51 of the half scoreless. Georgia State went on a 14-0 run to take the 44-11 advantage into the locker room.

Samford began the second half on a 17-8 run to pull the score to 52-28 but that is as close as the Bulldogs would get. Georgia State held a 53-33 rebounding advantage and shot 44 percent for the game while the Bulldogs shot just 23 percent.

Samford will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday, Feb. 15, for a 7 p.m. ET game against Jacksonville University.
