Softball Finishes Fifth at GSU/Reebox Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. - The GSU/Reebox Tournament had a familiar finish for the Samford softball team after a 2-1 loss to Georgia Southern Sunday morning knocked the Bulldogs out of the tournament. For the third-straight week, the Bulldogs picked up a win on the tournament's first day and then went winless the final two days only to be eliminated by the team it had beaten on the first day.

Samford (4-13) fell to Georgia Southern Sunday morning after beating the Eagles (4-11) by the same score in 10 innings on Friday. Michelle Ashley went 2-3 with an RBI-triple in the fifth inning which plated Jennifer Graham with the Bulldogs only run of the morning.

Georgia Southern scored two-runs in the third inning on a two-RBI double by Meghan Correia off Samford starter Erin Landsburg. Landsburg pitched seven innings giving up two runs on five hits. She went 0-2 on the weekend despite an ERA of 1.00.

Samford dropped its Saturday night contest with Coastal Carolina 5-0 to set up the rematch with Georgia Southern.

Ashley was the Bulldogs leading hitter for the tournament batting .562 (9-16) with a double and a triple. She earned All-tournament honors for the second time is as many weeks and is the only Bulldog hitting over .300 for the season as she is hitting .419. Abi Casillo continues to play well in her freshman season and was named to the All-Tournament team. She went 6-13 (.462) in the tournament, unfortunately for Samford the rest of the team batted .088 (9-102) over the three days.
