Soccer Adds Shades Valley Standout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford head women's soccer coach Barry Spitzer has announced the signing of Christina Dortch to a National Letter-of-Intent on Wednesday.

Dortch a 5-4 forward from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, becomes the 12th incoming freshman to join the Bulldogs in the fall. Dortch won the Shades Valley Varsity Athletic Award, Optimist All-Star Soccer Award, was a Pinson Valley Tournament All-Star and was an All-State selection in her final three years at Shades Valley. She scored 80 goals heading into her senior year and participated with the 1983 Alabama Olympic Development Program and the Attack 83' club program.

Dortch joins Heidi Kearns, Lindsey Bosshardt, Lindsay Shanks, Heather Pomer, Keala Ryan, Jessie Dassel, Adri Zertuche, Lisa Stucki, Kathy Nichols, Cassie Coggins, and Crystal Royall, who all signed during the early signing period, as Samford's 2001 recruiting class.
