CLARKSVIILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay knocked Samford starting pitcher Matt Fields out of the game in the second inning and scored seven runs in the first three innings to defeat Samford 9-2 in nonconference baseball action at Raymond C. Hand Park.
APSU (23-21) recorded 13 hits against Fields and Dennis Thomas and Samford (14-28) stranded 13 base runners while both teams committed one error.
Robert Evans, Joe Denson and Michael Collins went 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs, with Evans and Denson recording doubles. Fields (1-2) took the loss for Samford.
Samford returns to action on Wednesday, facing Alabama in Tuscaloosa at 7 p.m. (CDT). The game is also scheduled for live broadcast on College Sports Southeast.
