TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Chad White went 3-for-4 and scored twice and Aaron Clark drove in four runs as Alabama defeated Samford 10-3 in nonconference baseball action Wednesday.
Samford (14-29) starter Robert Evans held the Crimson Tide (26-19) scoreless through the first two innings, but was roughed up when Alabama scored four runs in the third. The Crimson Tide also used a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and the eighth to do a number on Samford pitching. Former Tider Major Allred took the mound in the fifth, going two and two third innings and allowing one run on two hits. Charlie Crabbe finished the game the last one and a third inning,, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks. As a staff, Samford allowed 10 runs on 12 hits and gave up three home runs.
The Bulldogs made their first mark on the scoreboard in the fourth, then added two in the top of the ninth on UA reliever Jeffrey Norris. Robert Evans again led Samford from the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored . Philip Holmes, Richard Bishop and Sae Evans each recorded a RBI for Samford.
Samford hosts Mercer in a three-game TAAC series April 27-28 at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
