BIRMINGHAM - Samford's two-time defending Trans America Athletic Conference champion men's cross country team continued its week of training on Tuesday, joining the women's team for an early morning run and an interval session at George Ward Park.
Two-time TAAC Coach-of-the-Year Glenn McWaters had a total of 23 athletes, 12 women and 11 men, report on Sunday for the week-long camp. The squad included not only the defending men's champions, but several All-TAAC performers and an impressive group of newcomers. Honorees returning for the men included TAAC Freshman-of-the-Year Chad Johnson and All-Conference performers Brett Baddorf, Andrew Spear, Johnson and Mark McBride.
Samford's women, who finished second at last year's TAAC Championships, also returned All-TAAC performer Lauren Floyd. The week will also give the Bulldogs a chance to see heralded Arkansas transfer Brittney Mensen in action.
The Bulldogs open the 2001 season at the UTC Invitational on Sept. 7 in Chattanooga.
