Sophomore forward Hayley Kolb broke a 3-3 tie with her second goal of the game and fourth of the season as the Bulldogs rallied to defeat Murray State, 4-3 on the road. With 3:42 left in the first overtime, Kolb took a pass from freshman Lindsay Shanks on the right side, drove downfield and fired home the game-winning shot from 20 feet to the right of the goal to give the Bulldogs the win.
Samford (4-3) opened the scoring early in the game, as Kolb took a pass from sophomore midfielder Lisa Robishaw with 8:47 elapsed. Murray State tied the game on a goal by sophomore midfielder Emily Schaller in the 17th minute.
The Racers took the lead when Schaller scored on an assist from Theresa Reedy in the 27th minute to make it 2-1. Ninety seconds later, in a battle in front of Murray State's goal, a Racer defender accidentally passed the ball into the goal for an own goal to tie the game at 2 in the 28th minute.
The Bulldogs ended the first-half scoring when Shanks scored her fifth goal of the season giving Samford a 3-2 lead at the half. Murray State tied the game in the 80th minute when junior midfielder Abbie Perez scored on a pass from Schaller to force overtime.
Murray State outshot the Bulldogs 24-13. Senior goalie Carrie Ollom recorded eight saves in her third win of the season.
The Bulldogs continue their Kentucky road trip when they travel to Western Kentucky Sunday for a 2 p.m.(EST) match.
