BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Omar Barlett scored 19 points and Jacksonville State shot 13-of-23 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range in the second half for a come-from-behind 59-57 win over Samford on Wednesday.
Barlett also led Jacksonville State (3-5, 2-3 A-Sun) with six rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Jay Heard, who scored 15 points.
Jacksonville State trailed Samford (7-6, 4-1 A-Sun) 29-24 at halftime, but the Gamecocks heated up after the break. Jacksonville State shot 56 percent from the field and 62 percent from the three-point line to make its move on the Bulldogs in the second half.
Samford outshot the Gamecocks in every category, firing 54.3 percent from the field, 52.9 percent from the three-point line and 83 percent from the free throw line. JSU finished the game at 52.2 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from beyond the arc and 40 percent from the charity stripe.
Samford's offensive attack was one-sided, led by Chris Weaver's career-high of 23 points and the team high of six
rebounds. No other Bulldog scored in double figures or grabbed more than
three rebounds, marking the first time this season that only one player scored in double digits. Phillip Ramelli scored nine points and Jon Mills scored seven.
Samford committed 15 turnovers, the eighth straight game the Bulldogs have recorded 15 or more, including nine in the second half. SU also was outscored in the second half for the 11th time in 13 games.
Samford returns to action on the road, facing Stetson in Deland, Fla., on Jan. 5th and Jacksonville on Jan. 7 in Jacksonville, Fla.
