YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - P.J. Mays rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown and
caught one of Aaron Marshall's two scoring passes as Youngstown State beat
Samford 37-29 Saturday.
Mays ran 13 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and caught a 51-yard
TD pass from Marshall in the second as the Penguins (7-4) took a 20-7 lead.
Samford (4-7) pulled within 20-14 at halftime on Josh Kellett's second
touchdown pass to Efrem Hill.
Youngstown State pushed its lead to 30-14 in the third quarter. Jake Stewart
kicked a 36-yard field goal and Marshall threw a 59-yard TD pass to Jerald
Burley.
Marshall hit on 10-of-18 passes for 180 yards with one interception. Burley
had five catches for 94 yards for the Penguins.
Kellett was 20 of 38 for 241 yards with two interceptions and ran for 33
yards and a score for Samford. Hill had 125 yards receiving on six catches,
including touchdowns of 48 and 12 yards. Aryvia Holmes caught 10 passes for 90
yards and a touchdown for Samford.
