Chattanooga Pulls Away from Samford, 68-40

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jennifer Wilson scored a game-high 18 points and Chattanooga outscored Samford 38-19 in the second half to break open the game as the Lady Mocs defeated Samford, 68-40, in women's college basketball action Monday night at McKenzie Arena. The Bulldogs fell to 0-2 while Chattanooga improved to 1-1.

Lindsey Harris scored a team-high 11 points to lead the Bulldogs. Noot Pittman pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

Samford trailed 30-21 at halftime and pulled within 34-29 on Pittman's jumper with 17:13 left in the second half. However, the Lady Mocs went on an 11-0 run over the next eight minutes. Trailing 45-29, Che Walker made a layup to end the scoring drought for the Bullldogs with 8:48 left in the game. Samford pulled within 50-38 with 6:02 when Harris hit a 3-pointer, but that was as close the Bulldogs would get. The Lady Mocs went on an 18-2 run to close out the game and seal the win.

Chattanooga led by as much as 28-13 with 3:25 left in the first half. Samford closed out the half with an 8-2 run. Harris hit two 3-pointers and Morgan Vickery made a jumper, pulling Samford within 30-21.

The Bulldogs shot 27 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. The Lady Mocs shot 53 percent in the second half and 45 percent for the game including 50 percent from 3-point range.

Chattanooga held the advantage on the boards 41-38 and forced Samford into 22 turnovers. Giovanni Price fouled out with 11 minutes left in the game for Samford. Walker scored nine points for the Bulldogs while Cora Beth Smith chipped in eight points.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to take part in the Jacksonville State Classic. Samford will play Alabama A&M Friday at 2 p.m.
