SAMFORD: The Bulldogs begin their month long road trip tonight against an Arkansas State team they defeated 70-61 in Seibert Hall on Nov. 25. Tyson Dorsey is third in the Atlantic Sun Conference averaging 20 points per game over the first three games. Last season Samford only had six games in which a player had scored 20 or more points, Dorsey already has two. Phillip Ramelli is second in the conference shooting 74 percent from he floor. The Samford record for best FG percentage is 60.5 percent by Randy Morgan in 1974-75. Samford leads the Atlantic Sun in six team categories. The Bulldogs are tops in free throw percentage (85 percent), 3-pt percentage (45 percent), 3-pt percentage defense (18.6 percent), assists (21.0), assist/turnover ratio (1.31), and 3-pointers per game (12.33).

ARKANSAS STATE: The Bulldogs and Indians should still be pretty familiar with each other as they played just a week ago in Birmingham. Tevoris Thompson scored 19 points for ASU while Paris London, Antonio Rambo, and Tony Brown each had 11 points. In their last game against Air Force, London led the Indians with 13 points. Odie Williams added 12 points. Thompson leads the team averaging 15.3 ppg, London is next at 13.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Brown is in double figures with 10.3 points. ASU is shooting 39 percent from the floor, 31 percent from 3-pt range, and 73 percent from the line. Thompson and London are a combined 22-27 (81 percent) from the foul line. The rest of the team is 30-44 (68 percent) from the charity stripe.

INSIDE STUFF: Samford 3-5 all time against Arkansas State after winning 70-61 in Birmingham last Monday. The home team has won every meeting in this series that dates back to Feb. 26, 1972. The last meeting in Jonesboro was on Dec. 11, 1993. Arkansas State won that game in overtime 64-62. Samford is looking to start the season 3-1 for the first time since the 1998-99 season in which the Bulldogs finished 24-6, won the Atlantic Sun, and faced St. John's in the NCAA Tournament.
