Samford Falls To Troy St., 64-52

BIRMINGHAM - Lamayn Wilson posted a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds and Robert Rushing added 17 points as Troy State defeated Samford 64-52 in Atlantic Sun Conference basketball on Thursday.

Troy State (17-9, 13-6 A-Sun) never trailed after the 12:00 mark of the first half, leading by as many as 16 in the second half and tying the largest lead by an opponent in Seibert Hall this season. The Trojans blistered the Bulldogs in the first half, shooting 66 percent from three-point range as Wilson tossed in 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. TSU finished the game shooting 47 percent from both. Samford (14-13, 11-8 A-Sun) led early, 9-6, but could not find the answer to the Trojans. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 34 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range.

Chris Weaver scored 17 points to lead Samford and Cornell Felton added 12 for the Bulldogs. Felton also led the Bulldogs with five assists. Rushing also dished out a game-high of six assists. After scoring his 22 first-half points, Wilson was 2 of 6 in the second half to finish the game 11 of 19 from the field.

Felton knocked down a three-pointer to cut the TSU lead to 18-17 with 9:23 remaining in the first half, but the Trojans responded with a 10-2 run to take a their first double-digit lead, 30-19. Weaver made a three to cut Samford's halftime deficit to 40-31.

TSU used an 8-1 run to begin the second period and extended to its largest lead of the game, 48-32. Samford responded with a 15-5 run of its own as a Phillip Ramelli three-pointer cut the Trojan lead to 53-47 with 6:43 remaining. TSU finished the game outscoring the Bulldogs 11-6, with Rushing scoring seven of TSU's final 11 points.

Samford set a season-best of only six turnovers with 16 assists, while TSU dished out 15 assists and also committed six turnovers. The Trojans set a season high for Bulldog opponents with eight blocked shots. Samford's 37 percent three-point shooting was the highest in four games but the ninth game in the last 10 below 40 percent.

Samford plays its final regular season game on Saturday, hosting Mercer at 2 p.m. at Seibert Hall. Weaver and Corey Green will be honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day.
