Samford Shuts Down A&M, 10-0

Normal, Ala. - - Junior right-hander Casey Graham and senior right-hander Matt Fields combined for a three-hit shutout and Samford pounded out 11 hits as the Bulldogs defeated Alabama A&M, 10-0 in seven innings in college baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

It was Samford's second shutout of the season and second game of the season which had to be called due to the 10-run rule after seven innings. Graham earned his first collegiate win as a Bulldog. He gave up two hits while striking out five through five innings before giving way to Fields, who allowed just one hit in two innings.

Samford (16-12) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With one out, Robert Evans doubled to left center and advanced to third on Eric Hollis' single. Major Allred drove in both Evans and Hollis with a double to left center.

Heath Owen's solo home run to lead off the third extended Samford's lead to 3-0. The Bulldogs added one more run in the fourth as Cory Sumner led off with a triple and scored on Evans RBI-single, making it 4-0.

Samford then exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth. Joe Denson led off with a double and moved to second when Sumner walked. Hollis doubled to left center to score both Denson and Sumner for a 6-0 lead. After Allred walked and Owen was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Snowden walked in Hollis extending the Bulldog lead to 7-0. Samford's final three runs in the inning came when Allred and Mario White, who had singled, both scored on wild pitches and Denson's sacrifice fly scored Snowden for the 10-0 advantage.

Evans and Hollis each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Samford. Sumner, Josh Rhodes, Allred, Owen, Snowden, White and Denson each had one hit. Hollis and Allred each had two RBI.

Jessie Caminiti took the loss for Alabama A&M (9-16). Caminiti gave up three runs on five hits in three innings pitched. Alvin Hall led A&M at the plate going 2-for-3.

Samford next travels to Orlando, Fla. to face UCF in a key Atlantic Sun Conference Series. Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET) with Saturday's doubleheader set for 1 p.m. (ET).
