Samford Soccer Signs Sixth Player for 2002

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford Head Soccer Coach Todd Yelton announced on Thursday that Marian Wagner has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play soccer at Samford. Wagner becomes the sixth player the first year coach has signed this spring.

Wagner a native of Spring, Texas comes to the Bulldogs after a successful high school career at Klein High School. She was named to the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston First Team, was a first-team all district and the Offensive MVP for Klein H.S. Wagner scored 30 goals and had 23 assists in her senior campaign. As a junior she scored 24 goals and added 21 assists. Marian plays club soccer for the Challenge out of Houston, which is one of the premier clubs in South Texas.

Yelton says, "Marian is an excellent player who will compete for playing time immediately. She has the ability to put the ball in the back of the net as well as set up teammates to do the same."

Wagner joins Allison Provine (Lilburn, Ga.), Audrea Youngman (Alpharetta, Ga.), Skye Dregalla (Larkspur, Colo.), Bridgit Martin (Caldwell, N.J.), and Lori McDonnell (Lakeland, Fla.) as Samford's incoming freshmen class.
