Campbell Sweeps Samford

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell used an eight-run fourth inning in game two and Derek Barrows singled in Nic Carter in game one as Campbell completed the series sweep of Samford, 15-4 and 1-0 in an Atlantic Sun conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field. Samford fell to 24-28 overall and 10-17 in the conference while the Camels improved to 21-27 and 10-17 in the conference.

Travis Crossland took the loss in game two.

Campbell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. After starter Beau Anderson walked the first three batters, Mike Wineke hit a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Camels ahead 1-0. Jason Brown singled in Nic Carter to give Campbell a 2-0 lead.

Samford took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Grant Caldwell walked and moved to second Major Allred's single. With one out, Kip Snowden reached on an error to score Caldwell pulling Samford within 2-1. Sae Evans singled up the middle to score Heath Owen and Snowden, giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.

Campbell scored eight runs on four hits and two Bulldog errors to take a 10-2 lead.

After Samford cut its deficit to 10-4 in the fifth. The Camels scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning to make for the final score.

Owen and Michael Collins each had two hits for the Bulldogs in game two. Mike Wineke went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Camels.

In game one, Barrows singled to left center to score Nic Carter in the bottom of the sixth and Matt Kleweneko got the next three outs as the Camels defeated Samford 1-0.

Samford recorded a season-low three hits and was shut out for the first time all season. Collins, Owen and Sae Evans each had one hit for the Bulldogs.

Samford returns home to face Mississippi St. at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
