Resmondo Garners Second Team Softball Honors

TROY, Ala. - Samford University first baseman Deanna Resmondo was named Second Team All-Atlantic Sun on Wednesday as announced by the conference office.

Florida Atlantic University swept the individual awards as pitcher Nikki Myers was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Year for the third-straight season. FAU head coach Joan Joyce received her fifth Coach of the Year honor and pitcher Candice Freel was named Freshman of the Year.

Resmondo batted .303 in conference games for the Bulldogs with a home run and four RBI. The transfer from Jefferson State, batted .262 on the season with seven extra base hits and 12 RBI while starting 28 games at first base for the Bulldogs.

Resmondo had a hit in nine of her last 11 conference games including a 3-7 performance against Georgia State where she hit a home run, drove in two runs, and scored two runs. She also broke up a no-hit bid by UCF's first-team All-Conference pitcher Dottie Cupp by lacing a double off the fence in the sixth inning.

Florida Atlantic placed four players on the first team, one on the second team, and three on the All-Freshman Team. Troy State University placed two players on the first team, one on the second team, and three on the All-Freshman team. FAU and Troy State are the top two seeds in this weekend's Atlantic Sun Tournament hosted by Troy State.
