Box Score

TROY, Ala.- Sophomore Lindsay Shanks netted two goals for the Bulldogs, and freshman Bridgit Martin added a goal and an assist as Samford defeated Troy State 3-1 on a wet and sloppy Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Bulldogs to 6-0 (2-0 in A-Sun).

Shanks continued her torrid goal-scoring pace. She has now scored seven goals in six games. Martin assisted on Shanks' first goal in the 27th minute. Martin then scored unassisted in the 49th minute as the Bulldogs raced to a 2-0 lead over the intra-state rival Trojans.

In the 77th minute Troy countered on a goal by Erin Doud to cut Samford's lead to 2-1. But the Bulldogs quickly answered as freshman Marian Wagner assisted on Shanks' second goal of the game in the 84th minute that proved to be the final margin of 3-1.

The Bulldogs outshot Troy 13-8, and Samford's sophomore goalkeeper Crystal Royall had 3 saves.

Next up for Samford is a home match against East Tennessee State on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs host Campbell on Sept. 19.
