Samford freshman Skye Dregalla notched her first career goal to tie the match and her second to win the match as the Bulldogs remained undefeated on the season with a 3-1 win at South Alabama in the Nike/Port City Classic on Friday.
South Alabama (2-1) got on the board in the 49th on a goal by Heather Adamus which was the first goal allowed by Samford in 229 minutes of play this season. Adamus was assisted by Kathy Steinmetz to give the Jags a 1-0 lead.
Dregalla leveled the match with her first goal in the 66th minute with help from Lisa Robishaw, who did not score a goal but had two assists to move her scoring streak to three-straight matches. Robishaw again assisted Dregalla with the game-winner in the 71st minute. Robishaw now has two goals and two assists this season. Her nine career assists move her into fourth place on Samford's all-time assist list. Also helping on the goal was freshman Marian Wagner who earned her first collegiate point.
Lindsay Shanks, who is no stranger to scoring goals, added her third of the season and 12th of her career in the 80th minute unassisted. Shanks moves into sole possession of fifth place on Samford's all-time goals scored list.
The Bulldogs will be looking for their second tournament victory in two weeks on Sunday as they play McNeese State at Noon in the second round of the tournament. McNeese State is 0-3 on the season after losing to Birmingham-Southern 3-1 on Friday. The Bulldogs are off to their best start since the 1999 season when they began the year winning their first five matches.
