WACO, Texas - Jonathan Golden set a Baylor record with five rushing touchdowns and finished with six touchdowns on the night as Baylor defeated Samford 50-12 Saturday night in front of a crowd of 28,275 at Floyd Casey Stadium. "When you spot a team 30 points early, it's hard to rebound from that," Samford head coach Bill Gray said. "We came out in the second half, and our kids continued to play hard. We're going to look at film and learn from this experience."

Baylor wasted no time on its first drive of the game. Golden capped off a 10-play, 96-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run giving the Bears a 6-0 lead with 10:26 left in the first quarter. The Bears extended their lead to 13-0 on Golden's 1-yard run with 1:58 remaining left in the quarter.

Daniel Andino's 23-yard field goal gave the Bears a 16-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Samford drove to the Baylor 20-yard line to start off the second quarter, but Derrick Cash intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 60 yards to the Samford 40-yard line. Seven plays later, Golden scored on a 3-yard run putting the Bears ahead 23-0.
