Women's Basketball Continues A-Sun Play at Gardner-Webb

Samford continues its North Carolina trip Saturday evening when the Bulldogs play at Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. (CST). The Bulldogs (4-11, 0-4 -A-Sun) will be looking for their first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season against the Runnin' Bulldogs (2-13, 1-3 A-Sun).

Jennifer Lodge scored a game-high 14 points to lead Campbell past Samford, 49-42, Thursday night. Samford went cold the last 6:01 of the game after leading 42-38. The Lady Camels ended the game on an 11-0 run. Samford shot only 21 percent in the second half after leading 24-22 at the break. Cora Beth Smith led Samford with 10 points while Che' Walker added nine points.

Gardner-Webb knocked off Belmont, 76-69, for its first ever A-Sun win Thursday afternoon. The game was moved to an earlier time due to snow in the area. Casey Collins and Katie Gravel each scored 19 points for to lead four GWU players in double figures. Shameka Smith chipped in 10 points and Brooke Anderson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Gardner-Webb finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range. Three players average in double figures for the Runnin' Bulldogs: Smith, 12.6 ppg, Collins, 11.9 ppg and Gravel, 10.3 ppg.

Samford and Gardner-Webb meet for the first time ever Saturday. The Bulldogs are 0-2 against schools from North Carolins this season, falling to Campbell Thursday and UNC-Asheville, 62-56, back on Dec. 19.

The Bulldogs return home next Thursday for the first of six straight games against A-Sun South Division schools and the first of a three-game homestand. Samford hosts Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
