RICHMOND, Ky. - Matt Guice hit Andre Green on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 1:23 to go in the game to lift the Eastern Kentucky Colonels to a 13-10 Ohio Valley Conference victory over the Samford Bulldogs at Roy Kidd Stadium Saturday night.

The two teams fought through a scoreless first half where Eastern Kentucky (2-4, 1-1 OVC) out-gained Samford (3-2, 1-1 OVC), 211 yards to 61. Also in the first half, EKU had 12 first downs to Samford's three.

Eastern Kentucky got the ball on the Samford 22-yard line to start the third quarter after the Bulldogs fumbled the kickoff to open the second half. EKU's Terry Ennis scored the game's first touchdown on the second half's opening drive on a one-yard run on fourth down with 12:25 to go in the third quarter. The point after was missed to give the Colonels a 6-0 lead.

Samford put its first points on the board when Ty Neil kicked a 42-yard field goal with 8:35 remaining in the third quarter.

Samford's Ray Nelson hit Efrem Hill on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 5:35 to go in the game to give the Bulldogs the lead. Neil's extra point made the score 10-6. After the EKU touchdown, Samford had one last chance to send the game into overtime, but a 35-yard field goal by Neil just missed as time expired.

On the night, Samford was led by Nelson, who completed 22-of-43 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown. Hill caught four passes for 104 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs. Cortland Finnegan led the team defensively with 20 tackles, including 14 solo stops.

Eastern Kentucky was led by Ennis, who carried the ball 28 times for 140 yards and a touchdown. Guice was 13-of-29 for 117 yards and a score.

Samford will return home next Saturday, October 11, when it plays host to the Murray State Racers. Kickoff for the game is set for 1:00 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
