Jacksonville State swept all three doubles matches and the Lady Gamecocks won four of six single matches to defeat the Samford Women's Tennis Team, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon. It was the Bulldogs first loss of the season and first conference loss.
Emily Nunnally and Katie Crawford won their singles matches for the Bulldogs. At the No. 1 spot, Nunnally won by default over Sally Pearson, who injured herself after the first game. Crawford beat JSU's Elisa Benhaim 6-2 and 6-2 in the No. 2 singles spot. JSU's Zeyenep Gurkaynak defeated Lisa Stertzer 6-1 and 7-6 at the No. 3 position while Michelle Dushner knocked off Samford's Jen Pharr, 6-4 and 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. At No. 5 singles, JSU's Heather Miller defeated Jenny Walls, 6-0 and 6-1. Gaby Baca won the No. 6 spot for the Gamecocks knocking off Jamie Aid, 6-1 and 6-1.
Pearson and Dushner took No. 1 doubles, 9-7, from the team of Nunnally and Crawford. Benhaim and Miller defeated Stertzer and Walls at No. 2 doubles. Baca Gurkaynak completed the doubles sweep at the No. 3, holding off, Pharr and Aid, 8-2.
The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they host Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Friday and Murray State Saturday at 2 p.m.
