Dolphins Get By Samford Baseball, 6-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jacksonville's Chad Hauseman went 4-for-4 with two RBI and Dennis Robinson allowed three hits in 6 1/3 innings as the Dolphins took game one of the Atlantic Sun Conference Opener for both teams, 6-3, at Joe Lee Griffin Field Saturday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather. Samford and Jacksonville will try to wrap of the series Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Rob Hudson finished 3-for-3 with one RBI while Orlando Diaz added two hits including a two-run home run in the first inning. Robert Evans took the loss for Samford allowing four runs in one inning pitched before leaving the game with an injury. Chandler Tidwell replaced Evans and struck out four in six innings while allowing two runs. Michael Collins led Samford going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, his second career home run.

Jacksonville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Diaz's two-run homer to left center. The Dolphins added three runs in the top of the second. After Robby Cichra walked, Jon Galui singled and advanced to second on an error. Cichra scored on a balk to make it, 3-0. Hudson and Hauseman each singled in a run to make it 5-0.

Hauseman's RBI single plated Hudson, who singled to lead off the top of the seventh, giving JU a 6-0 lead.

Robinson, who entered the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-hit shutout, walked David Henry and Robert Evans with one out. Collins then drove a 3-2 pitch over the left center field wall for the three-run homer to cut Samford's deficit to, 6-3. Dustin Bolton got Matt Alling and Ehren Wassermann to ground out and earn the save.

Sae Evans and Eric Hollis each had one hit for Samford. Jacksonville finished with 10 hits.

Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. with a seven-inning game to be followed by a nine-inning game.
