Women's Basketball Heads to Belmont

Samford heads to Belmont for its first of three final regular season games on the road. The Bulldogs (6-18, 2-11 A-Sun) and Bruins (16-8, 7-6 A-Sun) tip off at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Aquinas Center in Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Action. Fans can listen to game in the Birmingham area on WVSU 91.1 FM or via the internet at samfordsports.com.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 60-50 loss to Campbell in their final home game of the season last Saturday. Freshman guard Cora Beth Smith scored 15 points and senior Noot Pittman added 12 points.

Belmont knocked off Gardner-Webb in its last outting, 67-43. Natalie Brown scored 18 points and Chasity Campbell added 10 points. Brandi Miller grabbed a game-high 14 points. The Lady Bruins shot 35 perecent from the field, but held Gardner-Webb to 22 percent from the floor including 8 percent from 3-point range. Brown leads the team averaging 13 points per game while Campbell is right behind with 11.7 ppg. Four of the Lady Bruins five starters are averaging in double figures in points.

Last time against Belmont, Samford held a 23-22 halftime lead, before the Lady Bruins rallied for a 52-48 win back on Jan. 18 in Seibert Hall. Miller scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Belmont. Giovanni Price and Lindsey Harris each scored 12 points while Cora Beth Smith added 10 points.

Belmont leads the all-time series 5-0 over the Bulldogs with the Lady Bruins winning earlier in this season.

Samford heads to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State at 6 p.m.(CST). The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season next Saturday at Jacksonville State.
