Women's Golf Tied For Ninth After One Round At JSU

SILVER LAKES, Ala. - Murray State shot a team total of 316 and is two shots ahead of Jacksonville State's 318 at the Chris Banister Gamecock Classic, hosted by Jacksonville State at the par-72, 5,935-yard Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail after the first round on Monday.

The Bulldogs were led by Kelly Stout's 84 in round one, and shot 350 as a team.

Oral Roberts is third with a score of 321, followed by Birmingham Southern (324) and fifth place Western Illinois (326). Middle Tennessee State is sixth at 331, followed by Bradley (334), while Troy State is eighth at 348. Jackson State and Samford at both tied at 350 to tie for ninth place in the 13-team field.

Birmingham-Southern's Shelley McGraw shot 36-39-75 and Oral Roberts' Brooke Fincher scored 38-37-75 to tie for the lead in a steady rain in the opening 18 holes of golf.

Lee-Anne Pace (Murray State) carded a 37-39-76 for third, while Nikki Orazine (Murray State) is fourth with a 40-37-77 and Jacksonville State's Angie Green is fifth after turning in a 41-37-78.

JSU's Shanelle Howell is tied for sixth with a (40-39) 79, while Florencia Moran is 10th (40-39) with an 80, while freshman Marilen Fernandez-Ruiz is tied for 12th place with an 81. Colette Murray and Sara Gallaher are each competing as individuals and are both tied for 12th place after scoring an 81.

The final round of the 36-hole event begins with an 8 a.m. start Tuesday morning.
